Many companies wonder about which type of environment is better for their business when it comes to technology: “Cloud Solution or On-Premise”? The right answer is: There is no right answer! This choice will depend of several different factors, such as the type of the company, the resources it has, infrastructure, financial situation, safety and many others.
What we all know is that Cloud Computing has been growing on the past years and its popularity has encouraged diverse companies to adopt it as a server.
The Cloud-based server provides enterprises more flexibility, convenience, economy, time saving, better performance and versatility.
Differently, On-Premise software needs a company’s own server for storage. This is the “traditional” alternative and it was, for many years, the only possibility for companies to store their servers. This on-premise software has also many positive aspects for businesses such as safety, reliability and more control of the data. However, this solution can be more costly, once the enterprises need to have their local server and all the infrastructure to keep that.
Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is the delivery of on-demand computing services over the internet, on a pay-as-you-go format. Companies that use Cloud don’t need to have their own infrastructure, once they use a third-part provider. It avoids upfront costs and has many benefits such as quick and cheaper maintenance, automated data backup process, economy of space for IT infrastructure, and the facility to pay just for the resources that the company uses. Depending of the type of business, Cloud use can be even more effective. For example, companies which have an expansive growth on a global basis can have the flexibility and facility of connecting with their customers, stakeholders, partners and others with less effort. In addition, Cloud computing offers pre-configurated features, which brings to the companies the convenience of integrating any software to their environment easily, not needing any installation or specific configuration.
In addiction, it is important to consider that Cloud Solutions depends on internet connection.
On-Premise
Companies that use on-premise are the ones who host everything in-house. This decision involves some upfront capital investment for the infrastructure and hardware installation.
Having this server on site, enterprises will also need support and maintenance to keep it working well and to make any repair when necessary. A prepared IT team has to be always available.
On the other hands, even though it is a more expensive choice, on-premise guarantees business’ data safer because the company can control it easier, having everything “on their hands”. Another great point is that on-premise servers are not reliant on an internet connection, which is highly regarded by many enterprises.
