The aim of process digitization is to make processes more efficient and transparent. This can be done by automating them or making them more user-friendly. However, many companies are finding that they are not getting the desired results from their process digitization projects. This is often because they are trying to do too much with too little help. In this blog post, we will discuss why low-code platforms are so important for successful process digitization projects.
Help from modern low-code platforms
The digitization of business processes and workflows is of great importance in the course of a company transformation and therefore enjoys high priority. With the help of modern no-code or low-code platforms, the associated tasks and requirements can be managed efficiently and new digital processes and business models can be set up quickly.
However, the current situation is far from satisfactory: In a recent survey, only every second company that has already started using no-code or low-code platforms was able to achieve its project goals to a satisfactory extent. One of the main reasons for this is that the use of these tools is often not well thought out and planned from the start.
There are three main reasons why the use of low-code platforms is so important for successful process digitization:
- First, low-code platforms help overcome IT resource scarcity. In many companies, the IT departments are already overburdened and do not have the capacity to take on additional tasks. The use of low-code platforms enables business users to develop digital applications themselves without having to resort to scarce IT resources.
- Second, low-code platforms shorten development times and reduce costs. The development of digital applications is often associated with high costs and long development times. Low-code platforms can help reduce these costs and shorten development times by allowing business users to develop applications themselves without having to resort to expensive external IT resources.
- Third, low-code platforms improve user satisfaction. One of the main reasons for the high user satisfaction with low-code platforms is that they enable business users to develop applications themselves without having to resort to scarce IT resources.
Low-code platforms are therefore an important tool for successful process digitization. However, their use must be well thought out and planned from the start in order to achieve the desired results.
Three quarters of those surveyed make the selection of their no-code/low-code platform(s) primarily dependent on three criteria:
- Authority over your own algorithms and data
- minimal manufacturer commitment
- no pay-per-use model.
Die Entscheidung über ihre Einführung liegt in den meisten Fällen bei den C-Level-IT-Verantwortlichen (51 Prozent) und bei der IT-Leitung (34 Prozent).
Advancing digitization, reducing costs
More than two-thirds of those surveyed (67 percent) who develop software using no-code/low-code expect a (strong) increase in the use of corresponding platforms in the next three years. This development is consistent, since most companies have to advance the digitalization of their processes and workflows in order to remain competitive in the future. It is therefore not surprising that seven out of ten respondents attribute central or rather central importance to applications created using no-code/low-code. It is striking that the expectation of a (strong) increase in the use of no-code/low-code is lowest in the specialist departments, i.e. exactly where the “democratization of software development” (citizen development) starts.
