If we get to the bottom of the term OCR, it’s really easy to explain. OCR stands for “Optical character recognition” which converts images of typed, handwritten or printed text into machine-encoded text. Basically answering the question: What is my machine-readable data?
With the Fellow-Plugins² for #Ephesoft we have developed a powerful OCR server that can help your daily business by extracting unstructured #data from various document types. Let’s use an automobile manufacturer as an example to elaborate the added value here.
A car consists of many pieces, as you know: (Engine, framework, windows,…). All of these pieces are valuable assets for the car’s functionality. On top of that, all of these pieces have to be delivered to the manufacturer by various suppliers. This could create chaos considering the fact that they might bill the manufacturer in different forms. Documents can also take on all types of form and shape:
To organize and to read all the data from these different types of documents is tough. Especially when you do not know which document belongs to which supplier (is A or C responsible for the delivery of Windows) , it is super hard to create an organized system out of different shaped issues like these.
Now this is where an OCR server and an emerging document system can be very helpful. Optical Character Recognition means bringing documents in a unified form and therefore in an easily searchable and accessible system. In this case the docuements for all the different parts find structure and organization in their supplier-source.
At the end of the day you will be lucky to find yourself in a situation of order and no stress. Your documents are easy to find, searchable and they all are in the same shape and form perfectly accessible for your team and your customers.
Welcome to a new way of document processing with the Fellow-Plugins² for Ephesoft.
